A little taste of the dirty south in the LES

Yup, I am talking about The Boil. Ok, ok it MAY not be the most authentic place in the world but it's effing delicious...and fun to boot. Its a little pricey (and I found the drinks too sweet and watered down)  BUT that all dissipated when I received my $25 2lb bag of shrimp and crawfish mixed with their special sauce (DRENCHED in a mixture of Old Bay, butter, garlic and spices) along with sausage, potatoes and corn thrown in for good measure. No worries if you have never had crawfish before, there are directions on how to eat them printed right on the wall..and its an art!

Like I have said before I am really over the downtown scene of over priced mediocre "New American" cuisine so I am more than happy to welcome this breath of fresh air. I went on a Saturday night around 11pm and they were blaring some pre-mixed hip hop songs (brought me back to my HS days) but I wont deduct points, it made for an interesting and nostalgic experience.

We also noshed on soft shell crab and Oysters - all very acceptable. They also have Dungess Crab, Snow Crab, King Crab and Lobster amongst other things.

They offer you bibs, gloves etc so prepare to get a little dirty. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. Overall I will definitely be back throughout the summer for my fix. That special sauce is too good to only have once.
